A Breeder’s Perspective on Canine Health

Dr. Unger described emotionally what it takes to handle being a dog breeder and shared a heartwarming story of her standard poodle GCHP Stone Run Afternoon Tea, Siba Best in Show at the 2020 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

About the speaker

Dr. Connie S. Unger of Pennsylvania breeds Standard Poodles under the Stone Run Standard Poodles kennel name. She raises puppies using the New Skete Method and breeds for conformation and personality so dogs will be good in the show ring and as companions. Dr. Unger’s approach is to look for personality, style, and movement and produce dogs that love to be with people.

The Stone Run breeding program consists of carefully planned breedings, not only reviewing pedigrees and health papers for each stud dog but also meeting them to see if temperament and structure fit into the program. Dr. Uger’s goal is to improve the breed by focusing on breed standards, structure, temperament, and health.

Dr. Unger is an AKC Breeder of Merit and a member of the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club and Lehigh Valley Poodle Club. She has bred a number of Champions and Grand Champions.

Dr. Unger is the breeder-owner of GCHP Stone Run Afternoon Tea, Siba; the Poodle Club of America Best of Show 2019, Royal Canin National Dog Show Reserve Best of Show, and Best in Show at the 2020 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show shown by Chrystal Clas.

Professionally, Dr. Unger is a retired college professor having spent 50 years in education.
