Dogo Argentino

Dogo Argentino

The Dogo Argentino, also known as the Argentine Mastiff, is a large, white, muscular dog that was developed in Argentina primarily for the purpose of big-game hunting, including wild boar; the breeder, Antonio Nores Martinez, also wanted a dog that would exhibit steadfast bravery and willingly protect its human companion.

About this Breed

The Dogo Argentino was developed Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez and his brother Agustin in Argentina. Their goal was to create an amazing hunting dog that would also be a wonderful companion. They proceeded by mixing in breeds like Great Danes, Boxers, Bull Terriers, Irish Wolfhounds, and Pointers. The Dogo Argentino was the final result. This may be the strongest and most muscular breed on the planet. While intended for hunting wild boar, these dogs unfortunately entered the fighting ring and have been therefore banned from many countries, such as England and Australia. The Dogo has a low maintenance white coat that actually reflects the sun away. These dogs need lots of room to run and require a good deal of daily exercise. Despite their horrible fighting history, these dogs can be whatever you make them. They are loyal, intelligent dogs that are wonderful with children.
