The Redbone Coonhound descended from red foxhounds brought to America by Irish and Scottish immigrants. The breed was developed to create a hunting dog with a stronger nose and with greater versatility over changing terrains. In particular, these guys are used to for “treeing” raccoons. Treeing is the action of trapping game, likely a raccoon, in a tree and calling attention to the hunter by barking.
