Silky Terrier

The Silky Terrier may look like a lapdog, but these little guys have a wild side. They were first bred during the late 1800’s in Australia by crossing the native Australian Terrier with the Yorkshire Terrier. The cross created an elegant, but energetic pup. Silkies like to chase and catch small prey. They have even been known to hunt snakes in Australia! This is a highly intelligent dog that must get the exercise it needs in order to stay out of trouble. Silkies have a long coat that needs brushed weekly to prevent matting, but shedding is rather minimal in these dogs. This is a people oriented breed that can make the best of companions with firm leadership.
