Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier

The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is an energetic fellow with a coat as soft as silk. These dogs hail from Ireland, but most of their early history was not recorded. We do know they were bred as all-purpose working dogs. They are likely relatives of the Kerry Blue Terrier and the Irish Terrier. Wheatens weren’t recognized as a breed by the Irish Kennel Club until 1937. These dogs can do well in a variety of environments, so long as they get their daily exercise in. Unlike most terriers, they are a rather quiet breed. Their coat is unbelievably soft, but it requires a a decent amount of maintenance. Wheatens get along with other animals and love being around people.
