Yakutian Laika

The Yakutian Laika is an ancient, aboriginal breed developed in the vast arctic conditions of Northern Siberia. They are related to the Siberian Husky and West Siberian Laika in both looks and purpose. Laikas work hard for their owners and are diligent in their wide variety of ordered tasks. They are exceptionally versatile working dogs and are used extensively for sledding, and hunting. Their coats consist of long, coarse, insulating fur often colored in combinations of grey, white, brown, and black. They have well-muscled bodies and a long, fluffy tail that nearly curls to their backs.

Yakutian Laika’s are highly trainable and obedient, as well as gentle towards calm humans. Their defensiveness and strong prey drive may make them less agreeable with other small pets. Their requirement for exercise is more extensive than the average dog, but they are happy to adopt any form of exercise offered to them. They are naturally inquisitive, alert, and snow-lovers making them excellent outdoor companions!
