Demyelinating Polyneuropathy

SBF2/MTRM13

This neurologic condition affects the protective covering of nerves, slowing how signals travel through the body. As nerve communication is disrupted, dogs may develop weakness, coordination problems, or other neurologic signs.

Affected dogs often have megaesophagus leading to regurgitation and a quiet or silent bark. Other signs that are inconsistent between affected dogs include delayed reflexes in the limbs, muscle tremors, delayed ocular reflexes, exercise intolerance, and seizures.

Signs first develop between 3-18 months of age.
