This condition causes muscle weakness and loss beginning early in life. Affected puppies may grow poorly and have difficulty nursing or eating, and some may also have changes affecting the brain or heart.
Signs develop shortly after birth. In the litter where the variant was discovered, the puppies were humanely euthanized between 2.5 and 6 weeks of age.
