Prekallikrein Deficiency
KLKB1 Exon 8
- Blood
This is a benign blood clotting condition involving an enzyme that helps activate specific clotting proteins. It is not associated with increased bleeding in dogs.
Dogs are born with this disorder, but it is often not recognized unless your veterinarian performs certain blood tests.
Talk to your vet about your dog’s prekallikrein deficiency result, as it may influence how they interpret bloodwork or clotting tests.
Many dogs with this result never show symptoms or develop health problems related to this variant.
This mutation was first identified in a Shih Tzu.
Penetrance: Dogs must have two copies of the mutation for their prekallikrein levels to be affected.
