Breed + Health Dog DNA Test

We adopted a cross breed, nothing more than giving a critter a home. We had an idea of the parents. A full bread Husky mom and a dad who was there as a foster resident. Dad is 100% New Guinea Singing Dog, we knew it, but what was cool was the results included in the family tree was not names of dogs rather sample numbers. These are the species sample numbers of other animals that are considered wild and held in zoos. Bisa, our pup came back with 50% dad, 46% husky mom, with a 4% malamute grandparent. Knowing the risk levels which usually come with crossbreed dogs, we were happy to see the only medical issue marker she was exposed to, came back as a zero. The data and ease of the test was awesome, a bit pricey, especially if someone is ordering more than one kit at a time. On the fun side, we discovered not only a sibling, but a genetic lifter mate a few minutes down the road. Bisa, on the left and her brother get weekly dog park time together.

I’m really pleased with my purchase, wait time, and results. The swabs were easy to use and collect saliva from my dogs. I appreciated the “every step of the journey” notifications as the tests results progressed through the process of discovering my dogs’ background. The interactive game in the app helped keep my anticipation down while I waited. And the reveal? WILD! My male Joey is mostly Pit bull and Staffordshire terrier with a wide mix of other breeds. He’s truly a “super mutt” as they put it. My female Willow is mostly Pit and shih-tzu, with a small percentage of Maltese, Poodle, and Boxer-of all things! Embark really does a deep dive on the impact of your dog’s heritage on their coat, skin, and eye color. And getting a look at my dogs’ potential health risks was insightful. I highly recommend Embark and am still reading all about my dogs’ family history and the findings from their test results.
