Giant Schnauzer

The Giant Schnauzer is unsurprisingly the largest of the schnauzer breeds. These big guys were bred to drive cattle and serve as guard dogs in Germany. In the 1900’s they were trained as German police dogs. The breed did not take up this role in America because the German Shepherd beat them to it. Giant Schnauzers require a lot of exercise and are not recommended for first time dog owners. Socialization is a must to prevent aggression towards people and other animals. They can still make great companion dogs, and they thrive when around their owners. This is an intelligent breed that can be given a variety of tasks to accomplish. Their coat requires constant upkeep, so anticipate doing more than weekly brushings.
