Pointers, sometimes known as English Pointers, are energetic, hard-working hunting dogs. The origins of this breed are clouded in mystery, but they likely came from either Spain or England. Hunters wanted a breed with the scenting ability of the Bloodhound, the speed and endurance of the Greyhound, and the easy-going hunting temperament of the Foxhound. From this mixture, the Pointer was likely born. This is a working breed first. Pointers have an endless amount of energy and require a job and tons of daily exercise. They will become destructive if they ever get too bored. Training a Pointer requires patience and persistence. This is not a breed for first-time dog owners. Pointers luckily do not shed very much and they require little grooming. If given the ideal environment, these dogs can make wonderful family pets.
