About the German Wirehaired Pointer
The German Wirehaired Pointer is a rambunctious breed that is ready to go to work at any given moment. The breed came about during the 1850’s in Germany when advances in the shotgun made hunting accessible to everyone. The Germans wanted a pointer that was more rugged with a coat that was suitable for water and land.
This is a high energy breed that requires a lot of exercise and a job. These dogs are very intelligent, so if they are not challenged they will become destructive and independent. German Wirehaired Pointers tend to gravitate towards one person, so good socialization is encouraged to prevent this. The GWP sheds year-round, but their coat does not require much grooming. -
