Cancer Genome Landscapes and Actionability Horizons: How DNA is Changing the Way We Treat Cancer Patients

Thurs, April 28, 2022 | 2:15 PM ET

William Hendricks, PhD

Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Vidium Animal Health, Assistant Professor, Integrated Cancer Genomics, TGen

The presentation discusses an overview of how cancer cells work and the various ways DNA is changing the way canine cancer patients are being treated.

About the Speaker

As a cancer scientist, Dr. Will Hendricks‘ vantage point in the human cancer precision medicine revolution of the past 20 years has shown him how the use cancer genomics, the science of cancer DNA, can save millions of lives. Motivated by the loss of multiple pets to cancer and his experience of the distress that comes with having very little information to help guide decisions on how best to help them, Will has been driven to bring precision medicine innovation to veterinary oncology where millions of pets are diagnosed with cancer each year. Dr. Hendricks is the Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Vidium Animal Health as well as an Assistant Professor of Integrated Cancer Genomics at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (Ten) in Phoenix, Arizona, He completed doctoral and postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Cellular and Molecular Medicine under the mentorship of Drs. Bert Vogelstein and Nickolas Papadopoulos, scientists who have been leaders in shifting human cancer treatment paradigms. In 2013, Dr. Hendricks established a laboratory at Ten to develop programs in canine and human cancer precision medicine alongside Dr. Jeffrey Trent. He has worked with a broad collaborative network to perform seminal genome landscaping studies in dog cancers and drive development of new treatments and diagnostics for dogs with cancer. He founded Vidium Animal Health in 2020 to accelerate the translation of genomic discoveries into the veterinary clinic.
